Morning Visions
Rag Mian-ki Todi
Rag Mian-ki Todi and Rag Darbari Todi were both composed by the great
musician
Mian Tansen who was the court musician of Emperor Akbar. The story goes:
Mian
Tansen composed Darbari Todi for the court of the Emperor. The Darbar are
the people
who make up the court; therefore, Darbari Todi is the official composition
for the Darbar
of the Emperor. Rag Mian-ki Todi on the other hand was his own trademark
composition. These days writers sometimes don't give the details of the
two ragas. It has
become common to refer to them as Rag Todi. Rag Mian-ki Todi is a late
morning
composition. The moods portrayed in the rag are devotion, a little
pathos, and heroism.

Rag Sindhu Bhairavi
Rag Bhairavi in its pure form came from Parvati, the wife of Lord
Shiva. It is a classical
rag played in the morning. Devotion, pathos, and joy make up the moods of
this rag.
Pure Bhairavi is not commonly heard these days. Sindhu (Sindhi) Bhairavi
can be played
in a classical or light classical style. There are many different
approaches to Sindhu
Bhairavi throughout India. The moods of this rag are pathos and joy. It
is a late morning
rag; however, it is commonly played as the last item in an all-night
concert.
