ALI AKBAR KHAN NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY AWARD
AND
RECIPIENT OF THE GOVERNORS’ AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING
ACHIEVEMENT

 

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) announced that
Passing on the Tradition by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan has been nominated for the
40th Annual GRAMMY Awards in the following category:

WORLD MUSIC ALBUM OF THE YEAR.

This is the fifth GRAMMY Award nomination for Mr. Khan and the third year in a
row that his own, family-run recording label, Alam Madina Music Productions
(AMMP), has been honored with nominations. This year’s GRAMMY Awards will
be telecast from Radio City Music Hall in New York on Wednesday, February 25th.

We are also very pleased to announce that the San Francisco chapter of NARAS is
presenting Ali Akbar Khan with its Governors’ Award for Outstanding
Achievement at a ceremony on February 15th in San Francisco. This award
recognizes outstanding, artistic or technical achievement by an individual or group
from the Bay Area music community.
